2016 tucson technical workshop recap

On November 10-11, APOMA hosted its second Tucson Technical Workshop at the University of Arizona. We were joined by 48 participants and 23 presenters who attended sessions that covered various topics that impact the optics and photonics industries.

“The APOMA workshop is a great time to come together and see new industry advancements in optical manufacturing. Not only is it two days of informative technical talks, but two days of meeting new people and creating ideas.”
~ Matthew Sydor

The presentations, which were chosen based on a focus on fabrication and building a technical and operational edge, provided learning opportunities and insights for all attendees. Submitted presentations included advances in polish materials, freeform optics, developments in aspheric manufacturing, high precision lens mounting, and more.

All attendees also had the opportunity to tour the University of Arizona's Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab. The lab is used by UA scientists and engineers who are developing large, lightweight mirrors for the next generation of optical and infrared telescopes. Workshop participants were able to see the latest developments made in the fabrication of these giant and powerful mirrors.

This exclusive members-only event allows attendees a unique learning program that is unlike others in the industry. Attendees can hear from peers and industry leaders, but the workshop also provides a chance to network and build partnerships.

Thank you to all participants and presenters at this year's Tucson Technical Workshop! We're proud to be part of such a great industry and community!

If you were unable to join us for this year’s workshop, see what you missed by downloading the presentations.

2017 board elections

With the New Year quickly approaching, 2017 APOMA Board elections will be taking place soon. The following positions are up for election this year:

President Elect - board nominee Mike Mandina (Optimax)
Corporate Board Members - currently held by Lee Steneken
(Esco Optics) & Dave Mohring (OptiPro Systems)

The Corporate Board Members have confirmed they are willing to serve another term, but if others are interested in running the nominee criteria is as follows:

  • President Elect: 5 sponsors signatures each are needed to get on the ballot
  • Corporate Members: signatures from 5 sponsors are needed as proof of nomination
  • All nominees are required to submit a letter of intent to the Secretary, announcing they are running for one of the available positions and include the gathered signatures.

If you plan to run as a nominee this year, these requirements need to be met and turned in by December 19, 2016. Once the slate is completed, we will hold elections.
