Bond Optics
Bond Optics is a U.S.-based manufacturer specializing in the design and production of ultra-precision optical components for defense, aerospace, semiconductor, and scientific research applications. The company’s work focuses on achieving extreme surface precision and optical quality across a wide range of component types, including optical flats, windows, prisms, wedges, and lightpipes. Manufacturing processes are optimized to deliver flatness tolerances to λ/40 and surface finishes below 3 Å RMS, with typical surface quality of 10/5 scratch-dig or better. A combination of conventional, continuous, and super-polishing techniques is employed, supported by comprehensive interferometric metrology capabilities for apertures up to 18 inches (450 mm). Bond Optics maintains flexibility in scale, fabricating components from 6 mm to over 600 mm in diameter and offers advanced glass machining for complex or nonstandard geometries. The company primarily works with optical glass and infrared materials including ZnSe, ZnS, Ge, and Si, with ongoing process development for fluoride and sapphire substrates. These manufacturing capabilities enable Bond Optics to support emerging optical system requirements that demand tighter surface specifications, improved environmental durability, and high-volume reproducibility.
